Fatigued Father Causes Deadly Accident
Multiple studies have shown that driving while fatigued can be just as fatal as operating a vehicle drunk. One family learned this the hard way when the driver fell asleep at the wheel, resulting in a car accident that took the lives of two children.
According to the police officers in San Antonio, Texas, the family was heading back from the beach when the father fell asleep behind the wheel. The vehicle then swerved off the road, hit a concrete culvert and flipped, causing multiple injuries to the family inside.
Since two rear seats were folded down to accommodate the eight children riding in the SUV, none of them were wearing seatbelts. It still isn't clear whether the adults had seat belts on at the time of the crash.
One of the victims, an 8-year-old boy, lost his life after being pinned under the vehicle. The second victim, a 2-year-old girl, was transferred to a hospital for treatment, but lost her life shortly after.
