Crash Caused by Sleeping Truck Driver
When a dump truck driver fell asleep behind the wheel, San Antonio police officers were dispatched to clean up the ensuing truck accident. Prior to the collision, the driver was traveling north on a local Interstate when he fell asleep around midnight. The truck then hit a guard rail, flipped, and emptied its contents all over the roadway. Its load included shredded bits of rubber and gravel, which proved to be difficult for emergency cleanup crews to remove from the road and surrounding areas.
Since the diesel tanks of the gravel truck were punctured during the accident, hazardous materials crews were also dispatched to the scene. As a result, that section of the interstate was closed for hours as crews worked tirelessly to cleanup all materials.
Initial reports show that the driver did not sustain serious injuries and received medical attention following the crash.
