Two Couples Killed during Motorcycle Accident
Two couples out for a ride on their motorcycles were sideswiped by a car last week, taking all of their lives.
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety were called to the scene of the double-motorcycle accident last Sunday. They soon learned that the two couples - Melvin and Shannon Rhenee Bricker; Steve Austin Claterbaugh and Kathleen Delores Smith - were riding northbound near Canton when they were both struck by a Mustang. The vehicle was driven by 31-year-old Jose Luis Pena who was taken into custody at the scene of the accident.
Pena is now being held at the Van Zandt County Justice Center on $2 million bail. Due to the severity and nature of the motorcycle accident, Pena was charged with four counts of negligent homicide. While Pena was not injured at all in the accident, his passengers were brought to the Mother Frances Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
