Last week, a police department mourned the loss of one of its own in San Antonio, Texas.

The retired detective, age 59, was riding his bicycle in southeastern Bexar County when he was struck by a pickup truck. Several people attempted to help him by providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation before the medical helicopter could arrive. However, he died shortly after arriving at an area hospital for treatment.
